National Drive Electric Week is almost upon us. The event first began in 2011 and was originally called National Plug In Day and was just a one day event. This year it will take place from the 10th – 18th September. There are lots of events happening all around the US, and in Canada, New Zealand, Denmark, Croatia and Hong Kong. The events are mainly organised by volunteers like myself and there are currently 226 events being held during the week.

We enjoy being part of National Drive Electric Week, it’s all about plug in Electric Vehicles. It’s about showing them off to the public, taking the public out for test drives and talking – make that lots and lots of talking and then some more added on top!
Getting people into the cars to test drive them is really important, they get to experience what electric car driving is all about – the smooth, quiet ride, the acceleration, the regenerative braking and they get to understand why we are all so happy and why we all have big smiles on our faces!
Test drives have become a key part of the events. Recent evidence suggests that giving people the opportunity to drive the cars at these events can lead to 30% of those people going on to purchase an electric car later in the year. That’s a really significant number and, it goes to show that all of our efforts are really starting to pay off.
Our event this year is planned for Wednesday 14th September in Bridgewater NJ. We will have Electric Cars on display from owners along with dealers bringing Electric Cars for test drives. There will be Nissan with the LEAF, Kia with the Soul EV, Smart with the Smart Electric Drive and Mercedes B-Class and new GLE550e, BMW with the i3 and Ford with the Focus Electric. Also, at the event there will be food trucks for dinner and they’ll even be a band playing. Come along and chat with Electric Car owners, learn what EV’s are like to live with on a daily basis, how much fun they are to drive, take a test drive in an Electric Car and even grab some dinner too!
If you are in the area please sign up to bring along your Electric Car and join us. We’d love to see you there.
There are a few other events planned in NJ during National Drive Electric week and you’ll probably see us at most of them. It’s going to be a busy, busy week!
My sidekick attended National Plug in Day back in 2011 with his Tesla Roadster. Back then the closet event was in NYC on Pier 54.Checking out the EnerTrac Electric Bike
